scarlet tanager fledgling ? question

i saw an incomplete looking scarlet tanager high up in a tree at little
bennett today. it had bright red around it's head area and some red above
it's rump although i couldn't see it's back very well because of the height.
but underneath it was mostly white or light gray with some yellow near tail.
the parts that are usually black where an almost black gray. i know it isn't
time for them to molt. so does this describe a fledgling scarlet tanager?
