While out sailing this afternoon, I was surprised to find us cruising
right past two (male and female) LONG-TAILED DUCKS. They were diving
just off of Greenbury Point in the Chespeake Bay (in the crab pot
section). I had the Capt'n turn us around for another look. Luckily,
we were headed home under power (sails down) as a few storms were
headed our way. We spun around, put it in neutral and awaited their
return to the surface. The soon popped up right near our boat.

Fun times on the Bay this afternoon. One benefit of the high gas
prices... a much quieter sail. There were very few powerboats out
there today.

The only other fun sighting was a Barn Swallow fly-by way out there in
the dead center of the middle of the bay (shipping lanes). The bird
flew right up next to us and then continued on it's way.

Good Birding,
