MD Osprey:

On Saturday, 7 Jun, Easton, MD nature photographer, Donna
Tolbert-Anderson, photographed the Bombay Hook, DE Little Egret.
Since this species is at the top of the Maryland "next species" list,
Maryland birders might want to check the excellent image on her web
site of the Little Egret and a Snowy Egret side-by-side. Her URL is ...

In addition to the Little's two nuptial neck plumes, vs. the
filamentous plumes of the Snowy and the bluish lores of the Little
vs. the yellow lores of the Snowy, note the Little's thick bill and
the straight forehead shape. I think former Maryland birder Bill
Murphy was the first one to articulate that the straight sloping
forehead shape of the Little was a good field mark.

Keep your eyes peeled for this species in Maryland where Snowy Egrets
congregate.

Hope this helps ...

Phil
