Hi All,

I received this email from a friend. Does anyone know what the creature
making the call is? Thanks.

Subject: Bird heard near midnight: research road

Hi Michel,

Despite many attempts out in the dark, I've been unable to locate the
chat this year. No luck.

But tonight i did hear something very very strange. I have attached an
MP3 - let me know what you think. It was very load and sounded at times
like a crying cat and at times like the sound of a bird. I walked closer
and closer, but got a little skittish, - decided to leave in case it was
an injured animal or bear cub.

It was down past the cow pastures on the left, before the bridge, where
the forest edge sort of bows inward a bit. I ws a little nervous
hearing this in the pitch dark. Heard at around 11:45 pm - 12:30 am. It
sounds like a distress call from a juvenile, but let me know what you
think.

I'm dead tired -- really unfortunate to have not heard the chat this
year. [feel free to forward to anyone else interested. I can also send
the whole recording, too]

David

Hi folks,

Here's the list of birds we (i.e. at least one person in the group) saw
on the bird walk I led May 26, aka Memorial Day. After I mentioned that
I often see good birds but we saw nothing of note in the ag fields along
Research Rd near Beaverdam Rd, this area was a hive of activity later in
the day (see list at bottom of list)...so, maybe we shouldn't be doing
these walks so early!

Haven't done much birding since (and the Blackpoll warblers have stopped
singing in Greenbelt, though a large waxwing flock has been hissing near
our house for about a week) but did see a Savannah and heard a
Grasshopper Sparrow near my research plots this morning.
