It appears that Maryland Environmental Service employees on Hart-Miller
Island have confirmed what we suspected last year --- that Black-necked
Stilts are breeding on Hart-Miller Island. The employees report that they
have been seeing adults with brown young for the past two weeks. The young
are smaller in size than the adults. Whenever the employees go to an area
where a Stilt family is present, the adults take flight and circle over the
employees heads while the young birds run away.
