About 9:30 this morning I stopped by the Oxbow Lake Nature Preserve
in northern Anne Arundel County to look for the Least Bitterns
reported by Marcy Stutzman yesterday. After only a few minutes of
scanning the vegetation in the middle of the lake, I saw one fly a
short distance. Then it flew in toward the near shore of the lake,
where I lost sight of it. I heard it call several times in the next 20
minutes or so but did not see it again. Also, I was unable to confirm
the presence of a second bird. (This was a long-sought-after state
bird for me. Thanks, Marcy!!)

Also present:

Great Blue Heron - 8+
Green Heron - 6+
Trumpeter Swan #960
Wood Duck - 10+
Belted Kingfisher - 1

Plus the usual Canada Geese, Mallards, and blackbirds.
