Announcing GIVEAWAY CONTEST w/CHARITY TIE-IN:

I have available the 2004/05 and 2006/07 Xmas Bird Count (105th and 107th CBC) issues by American Birds. Rather than offer them simply to the first to contact me, I thought of a more complicated and potentially lucrative (to CHARITY) method of disposing of them. [FYI - Norm has signed off on a working version of this idea.]

Here are the rules:
FIRST OPTION - Simply, e-mail me (remember to use “reply” only NOT “reply to all”) and indicate your interest. If you have an interest only in a specific issue, please also indicate that. You will receive one chance to “win” an issue

SECOND OPTION – This option has the CHARITY tie-in and is also where things get a little complicated. Make a donation to ANY charity and receive up to 10 additional chances to “win” an issue. For example, if you make a $1 contribution you receive 2 chances, $2 gets you 3 chances, etc., up to $10 donated to receive 11 total chances to “win” an issue. There will be no screening of charities and no requirement to provide proof of actual donation; the HONOR SYSTEM will be used. Suggestions on preferred charities (other than the listings below) SHOULD NOT be posted to OSPREY, but may be shared among your OSPREY friends. As above, if you have an interest only in a specific issue, please also indicate that.

At the end of the contest I will post a message announcing the winners as well as the amounts donated to specific charities (so you are STRONGLY encouraged but not required to indicate which charity you donated to in your e-mail to me). Winners will receive their issues via first class mail (for US and Canadian addresses) at my expense.

Limitations:
Open to OSPREY members only. No one can “win” more than one issue.

Selection procedure:
The contest will run for 7 consecutive days including the day of posting to OSPREY. Depending on the number of contestants, a preliminary winnowing of entries may be necessary and will be based on the selection AT RANDOM of one day from the 7 possibilities. If you have a lucky day, send me your e-mail on that day. Since the contest will be open for 7 days, you can take time to consider where to make a donation if you choose that option.

Suggested charities/nonprofits (most permit on-line donating):

1. Wildlife Rescue, Inc. (formerly Wild Bird Rescue, Inc.) – visit
http://www.wildliferescueinc.org/index.html
type “Wildlife Rescue, Inc.” in Google if the link above does not display

2. Audubon Naturalist Society - visit http://www.audubonnaturalist.org/RunScript.asp?p=ASP\Pg0.asp
type “audubon naturalists society” if the link above does not display. ANS is the home of the Voice of the Naturalist, the weekly compilation of bird sightings in the DC/MD/VA/DE area that Norm posts to Osprey almost every week.

3. American Bird Conservancy – visit
http://www.abcbirds.org/
type “American Bird Conservancy” in Google if the link above does not display

4. Maryland Rescues and Humane Societies and other groups – visit
http://www.adoptablepets.net/mdpets.html
type “Maryland Rescues” in Google if the link above does not display. This site has (to my knowledge) all MD county HS.

5. Virginia Rescues and Humane Societies and other Groups - visit
http://www.henricohumane.org/VaRescues.htm
type “Virginia Rescues” in Google if the link above does not display. This site is very similar in approach to the Maryland Rescues site above.
