Hello everyone,

How nice it was (mere moments ago) to finally have a PEREGRINE FALCON
join the old yard list. It flew right over my house while I was out
getting the mail. Despite the fact that the bird's regular hang out,
the Severn River Bridge, is only a mile or so away, I've never had one
actually fly directly over our 1/8th of acre homestead.

In other news, our RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD is still around and quite
busy fending off all of the other hummers. There are two others RT
Hummers that regularly stop by to sneak a drink. The plumages on all
three birds are quite different, but what's more... I can tell who is
who based on behavior at the feeder. The big boss lady (and from all
appearances, she looks like a she) moseys up to the feeders, sits back
and enjoys, only occasionally looking around for threats. The other
two never perch and spend less time drinking and more time worrying
about being spotted by the boss. They only manage a few sips before
being shown the way out. To say the least, the show entertains me
while I work away on my computer.

Finally, is it me or does the approaching weather look promising for a
little shorebird push into the region? With a large cold front moving
in from the Northwest, complete with a strong line of storms, could
that not offer some nice birding over the next couple of days? I'm no
meteorologist, but I did interview Ch 2 weather man Norm Lewis in
college about possibly becoming a TV weather person.

And that is why I am an educational sales rep and musician instead.

Good Birding,
