Hello all-today a group of 20 or so hopefuls met at the entrance of Oxbow
Lake Preserve. Our trusty guides, Marcy & Jay explained that the Least Bittern
hadn't been seen for a few days presumably b/c of one or two large snapping
turtles being in the area that probably ate the chick(s). So we walked the
path to the right. Then to the left. George Thomas spotted movement with his
keen eye and scope, and there it was, a male Least Bittern. He remained in
the area for quite a while so that everyone was able to get a good look at
him. He was a life bird for many, including myself.
Thanks Marcy and Jay for showing us the spot.
I figure Marcy will file a complete trip list on ebird.
