Hi all --

After the cold front it seemed a good day to check out Rock Creek DC for migrants. Jim Lemert thought so too and we met him at the Ridge (picnic areas 17/18). Other than Pewees this area was quiet but the stable, maintanance yard, and nature center area proved more interesting. A few birds were along the wood edge at tMilitary Field as well. Habitat looks great in most places, lots of berries ripening, only the ridge looks barren after removal of invasive vegetation (no apparent regrowth of native stuff unfortunately).

Birds seens include:
Warblers:
HOODED (1)
WORM-EATING (2)
Black-and-White (1)
Black-throated Green (1, Jim only)
Redstart (2)
Ovenbird (2)

Other birds of interest:

Cooper's Hawk (2, one carrying prey)
Ruby-throated Hummingbird (3)
Wood-pewee (at least 15)
Phoebe (4)
Acadian Flycatcher (1, vocal)
Red-eyed Vireo (5)
Scarlet Tanager (1, male)
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (8)
Chipping Sparrow (1, juv.)

Still lots of Catbirds and House Wrens around as well.
