I went back down to Eagle Harbor this morning and kayaked from Cedar Haven Park along the Eagle Harbor waterfront and out to Chalk Point. The possible hybrid gull continues at the same location as reported on Monday. It spent much of its time on the pier at Trueman Point, but also wandered up to piers off other residential lots. I was able to get close photos of the color of the bare parts, the partial hood, and both the upper and lower surfaces of the wings.

The Black-headed Gull was also in the area, but slightly further south. I found it on one of the pilings near Chalk Point. It was less cooperative, but I did get one photo of it perched and one in flight. It was on one of the pilings where a small creek feeds into the Patuxent on the south side of Eagle Harbor (near the power plant).

The photos of the possible hybrid came out well and document many of the bird's field marks. I got enough photos to keep me busy for awhile and compare with my various gull books in an attempt to make sense of the bird. As an FYI, Eagle Harbor is located along the Patuxent in Prince George's County. It is accessed by taking MD 381 south, and then making a left on Eagle Harbor Road. From Eagle Harbor Road, bear left onto Trueman Point Road. Cedar Haven Park is located at the end of Benjamin Banneker Boulevard, which is another left off Trueman Point Road. Trueman Point is private property, but can be viewed by kayak or from the end of Trueman Point Road, which ends at the beach.
