Took my sons for a picnic at Riley's Lock on Friday and then dropped by
Hughes Hollow and the Polo fields afterwards.

There was a single Black Tern and several Purple Martins along the river
above the lock. Over 20 Black Vultures were using the lock itself to roost
and were not at all intimidated by my loud boys. Only one flew off as we
walked by.

At Hughes Hollow a single immature White Ibis flew to a snag near the
parking lot. Several Great Egrets, Green Herons and a Black Crowned Night
Heron were also present.

The Polo Grounds had no shorebirds other than two Killdeer. A flock of over
20 Horned Lark was present. A large accipiter came out of the woods behind
the playing field and soared for a few minutes.
