Tonight the remnants of tropical storm Fay brought some good shorebirds to
the North Branch of the C&O Canal near Cumberland in Allegany Co. After
finding a single RUDDY TURNSTONE and a single STILT SANDPIPER foraging on
the tarps, I was joined by J.B. Churchill and Ray Kiddy. We determined there
was a total of 4 Ruddy Turnstones and 2 Stilt Sandpipers. Also, J.B. was
able to relocate the RED-NECKED PHALAROPE in the rear most visible ponds,
which was found last evening in the same location. Here's a list of
shorebirds observed in the wet conditions:

RUDDY TURNSTONE - 4
STILT SANDPIPER - 2
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE - 1
Lesser Yellowlegs
Greater Yellowlegs
Solitary Sanpiper - 1
Killdeer - MANY
Least Sandpiper
