Not to throw cold water on Phil's hopes, but there is one crucial difference
between the Sea Islands Hurricane and Hurricane Hanna. The 1893 hurricane
formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean and tracked for days across the ocean
as a hurricane, becoming a major (category 3) hurricane four days before
making landfall. Hanna formed east northeast of Puerto Rico and has
meandered westward to its current position near the Bahamas, and only
yesterday strengthened enough to be considered a hurricane.

But every hurricane is different. Who knows what Hanna will bring ashore.

Phil neglected to point out the the Band-rumped Storm Petrel record was from
the District of Columbia. Maryland had to wait 104 years for its first
accepted record.
