I went up to Washington Monument State park, west of Frederick today. We had
a good day of migrating Broad-winged hawks (also four eagles, and a few
accipiters). I was there from about 10 to 4; When I left, the count was at
200 Broadwings, including one large kettle of nearly 100, and several
smaller ones as well. One adult Broad-wing flew within about 30 yards the
tower at eye level. WOW!
The next ten days or so are the height of the Broadwing migration in the
mid-Atlantic. I'm not going tomorrow at 90-degrees and strong SW wind.
Monday and Tuesday look better.
