Hi --

One bird (seen by most) in the Maintenance Yard that got left off Wallace's
long (!) list was the cooperative bright juvie YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER.
This species has been recorded a lot this year, unprecedented in fact. While
some may be repeats sightings from one day to the next, it's still really
amazing. We had one yesterday but it was a scruffy-looking moulting adult.

Also several SWAINSON'S THRUSHES were seen and a VEERY was heard today.

Barry and I left Wallace and Dan looking for the Connecticut and went
briefly to the Dog Run (Military Field). A great addition to the list, and
another very good bird was a GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH in the walking sticks,
along with two BTB Warblers.

In the last two days, after a good cold front followed by clear sunny
mornings (the conditions when Rock Creek is at its best for migrants), there
have been two Connecticut Warblers (in different places), two different
Philly Vireos, a Summer Tanager, two Y-B Flycatchers, Gray-cheeked Thrush,
plus about 20 other species of warbler including yummy birds such as Cape
May, Bay-breasted, Blackburnian etc.,all four thrushes and other good birds.
What the Brits call a "Purple Patch!"

Cheers,
