I birded Thursday morning, September 18, at Green Farm Conservation
Park just north of the Montgomery County Airpark off Snouffer School Rd.

Most interesting birds were a juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker (by far
the youngest individual of this species I've ever seen) in a big dead
tree near the upper pond and a Pied-billed Grebe in the lower
pond. I also had a few pockets of warblers of 7 species here and
there; most noteworthy of these was a female Prairie Warbler.

This location, also (and maybe more correctly) called "Lois Green
Conservation Park," will be featured in the Montgomery Bird Club's
updated "where to bird in MoCo" guide that it being readied for
publication before the end of this year. Mark England has already
written an informative chapter for this book, describing birding
opportunities there. There is an interesting mix of habitats and the
place should be excellent for sparrows in the fall.

If you want to know how to get there, it's a little complicated so
please contact me off-line.
