After yesterday's 340 Broadwings, I was checking the skies over
beautiful Downey Dale Drive, Randallstown frequently today. From about
8:10 to 9:10 I saw 80 Braodwings. Unlike yesterday's fairly
high-flying hawks, these were lifting off and kettling from close by,
probably from the woods behind Church Lane down to Milford Mill Park.
Consequently, it was very easy to see their markings - about as good
as it gets. I also saw two Kestrels, a Northern Harrier (I'm pretty
sure), and two very vocal Red-shouldered Hawks.
Then nothing except one Osprey the rest of the day. But in
compensation I had 3 very active warbler species in the shady back
yard around 4:30: Parula Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Black-and-White
Warbler. Surprisingly, these were the first warblers I've seen
actually IN my yard this season.
