The regular Sunday walk at Cylburn turned up very few warblers but had
its compensations.
Winter Wren - first of season for all, first heard and seen by Taylor
McClean around the first big bend on the stump dump trail.
Black-throated Blue Warbler - a colorful, cooperative male giving its
distinctive dry chip note in the same area.
Great Horned Owl - While scanning for warblers, I happened to see a
beehive with two ears. I said "I think I have a Great Horned Owl,"
which I believe all the others saw before it proved it was not a
beehive by flying off. This was also in the same area of the stump
dump trail.
Swainson's Thrush - vigorously giving its whit" notes, and even weakly
singing once or twice, but not seen, near the Formal Garden.
No hawk flight today. Just a Kestrel and two Sharp-shinned Hawks.
