Leakin Park was as birdy as I have ever seen it this morning from 7:30 to 8:30. I only walked a short distance from the Winans Meadows parking lot to the Ben Cardin picnic pavilion. Most of the action was near to the right of the pavilion in the vines behind the historic "ice house". Four Rose-breasted Grosbeaks flitted about for the entire hour. Also seen were several warblers including Blackburnian, Nashville, Chestnut-sided, Black-throated Green and Common Yellowthroat. Four species of woodpeckers were very active including one Pileated. Phoebes and Pee Wees also numerous.

I will go again tomorrow early if anyone wants to me join me. The gate at Winans was locked but the maintenance worker who showed up at 8:15 told me it was OK to park along the entrance road curb as I had done. The park opens at sunrise to allow for the collection of the dead bodies dumped during the night. This urban legend is why the park lacks non-avian visitors.
