Went by Hughes Hollow this evening from 4:45 - 5:45. The highlights
included three barred owls that formed a chorus from three directions. A
coopers hawk flew from the woods just past the impoundments. A lone
red-headed woodpecker worked some snags in the second west impoundments and
two pileateds worked their way through the forests. Over 40 wood ducks flew
about skittish from the gunfire of hunters training their dogs. Found just
a few summer residents, most notably a marsh wren and one tree swallow. Also
plenty of phoebes and bluebirds. Only warblers were three yellow-rumpeds.
Drove by the polo fields and found a loose flock of 30-35 horned larks but
no grasspeeps.
