This Wednesday, October 15 - Phil Davis will present "Birding the Bering Sea: Western Alaska Specialties and Asian Vagrants.”

The following was taken directly from our website!

Any avid ABA lister must sooner or later trek to the Bering Sea region to tick off Western Alaska specialties such as Red-legged Kittiwake, Whiskered Auklet, and Common Ringed Plover and at the same time hope to encounter some Asian vagrants along the way. Phil just completed his 12th trip to Western Alaska and has compiled a multimedia presentation on the birding locations and the key target species of the region. His presentation introduces the Western Alaska birding locations of Attu, Shemya, Adak, Dutch Harbor, the Pribilof Islands, Gambell, and Nome. In addition to the "common" seabirds of the Bering Sea (murres, puffins, guillemots, etc.), his presentation includes photos and discusses target species he has seen in Western Alaska since 1998. He also summarizes Western Alaskan and Asian subspecies that are candidates for future AOU splits.

Meetings are held at the Potomac Presbyterian Church, 10301 River Road (1/4 mile past Falls Road in Potomac).

Doors open at 7:00 pm, refreshments at 7:30 pm, meeting begins at 8:00 pm. All are welcome.
