I have been representing the Maryland Ornithological Society on the
Hart-Miller Island project since 1997. I need your support in two weeks.
There will be two public informational meetings regarding the proposed
closure design for the North Cell of Hart-Miller Island.
Tuesday, October 28, 2008
6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Chesapeake High School
Wednesday, October 29, 2008
6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Sparrows Point High School
This closure design would be similar to the created wetland habitat of the
South Cell. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has included in
the proposed design many of the ideas suggested by MDOsprey members last
year. I am requesting that members of MDOsprey, especially those of you
that have regularly been to Hart-Miller Island, please attend one of these
meetings to present comments and show your support for this project. At the
2006 public informational meetings, we had a very disappointing turnout from
the birding community. We need to show that we are committed to this
project. Other constituents have suggested other concept designs such as
creation of a wind farm and commercial development. These options are not
in the proposed design but we need to show that the birding community is
behind the proposal.
Please plan to attend one of these public meetings and present comments
showing support for this project. I hope to see you at one of the meetings.
Thanks.
