After reading Mike Bowen's postings about Green Farm Conservation
Park in Gaithersburg, I decided to check it out for myself this
morning. As Mike mentioned in his most recent report, I crossed
paths with him and Joy and Jim Green as they were leaving.
Although things started off slowly for me, I found a pocket of bird
activity about halfway between the two ponds, just as the wind died
down and the sun came out. I followed a deer trail a short distance
into the brush and saw the following birds (standing in practically the
same spot):
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Tennessee Warbler
Nashville Warbler
Palm Warbler (both yellow and western)
Common Yellowthroat
Eastern Towhee
Song Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow (singing)
Dark-eyed Junco - my first of the season
I also saw a Cooper's Hawk and the usual assortment of chickadees,
titmice, and cardinals. Thanks, Mike, for spreading the word about
this little gem of a park!
