Hi again,
I went over to Blue Mash fairly early this morning, and was surprised to
find myself alone on the trails (save for a pair of dog walkers). While making
my way to the first real trail on the left I had a brief encounter with a
Common Yellowthroat near the metal gate, followed by a flyby Bald Eagle heading
towards the rising sun. Once on the first trail I started getting some birds
(after it had warmed a bit); White-throated Sparrow, Field Sparrow, an immature
White-Crowned, Chipping Sparrows and Palm Warbler. As I was looking out over
the big pond Lydia Schindler caught up with me and we walked the rest of the
park together.

We had many really great looks at some very fine late season birds,
including 2 Blue-headed Vireos (both in excellent light), male and female
Black-throated Blue Warblers, a really pretty Blackpoll (2 were seen in different
places), many, many Yellow-rumps and RC Kinglets, House Wren, Gray Catbird, Swamp,
Song, and Savannah Sparrows, along with at least 4 more White-crowned
Sparrows, Northern Harrier, Sharp-shinned and Cooper's Hawks, Red-tailed and
Red-shouldered Hawks, many Killdeer and a lone Greater Yellowlegs, and a host of the
regularly seen birds at this location. After a cool start, it turned into a
really pleasant morning, and I ended with about 49 species.
