I went to Druid Ridge Cemetery to check on the Pine Siskins and to
hope for a Redpoll this morning. Soon I met up with Marcy Stutzman. We
did not find any Siskins or Redpolls over the course of several hours
together or separately. The number of Goldfinches has increased a
great deal since earlier in the week.
The activity this week was mainly in the hemlock trees, which have a
lot of cones. I have noticed that white pine cones seem to be very
scarce most places I have looked, especially around Liberty Lake.
Spruce cones are abundant now in my area but not quite ripe. Perhaps
they will draw in some interesting northern species soon.
