I visited Triadelphia this a.m. arriving at 0745. Nothing much visible from
the dam, but from the Greenbridge boat ramp, tucked up on the lee/Howard
side were:
Great Egret -1
Black Duck - 5
Am. Wigeon - 3
N. Shoveler - 7
After trekking round to the pipeline crossing, an immature Bald Eagle
stirred up the pot. Once they settled down, in a cove to the left on the
MontCo side were:
Pied-billed Grebe - 1
Am. Wigeon - 5
N. Shoveler -8
Several Great Blue Herons were present, as well as two Belted Kingfishers.
I got to the Tuscawilla Hills Golf Course just outside of Charlestown, WV,
about 10:20. And did find the White-cheeked Pintail, in the company of three
Mallards. They were on the "far pond" and flushed at 10:30, before I could
get a good scope view, let alone photo. They headed in a southerly
direction, but were not refound at the original Huntfield pond.
The directions were a bit hard to follow. Take 340 to Charlestown, but
where it turns south, keep straight through town. This will become rt. 51.
You will pass another intersection with a sign "To 340." Ignore it and keep
straight. Just beyond the edge of town, there is aY intersection with stop.
Take the left branch, Summit Point Rd. You will go some distance, and once
you PASS the Tuscawilla development (the little building with that name on
it, has the name facing AWAY from you, so you'll never see it) take the next
right. It will be at the second big bank of political signs, one of which
bears a "Bill of Rights." Then it's just a short distance, to the pond on
the left. The paved path is marked for golfcarts only. But there is a
gravel pathway at upper end, where you can walk, and it is not so posted.
Of course, the bird left at 10:30, who knows it it will return.
