Occasionally somebody still sees a migrant, but we are definitely into
winter bird mode now. It really came home to me while I was standing along
Pipe Creek this AM. There was a flock of White-throats across the stream and
they were so vocal with song that I had to look around and make sure I
hadn't accidentally walked over the border into Canada. We were in Minnesota
in June and heard a lot of them but I think today matched it.
It's really important for winter birds to sing. They have to establish a
territory that they'll own for all of five minutes before the flock moves
on.
Also had plenty of kinglets and Juncos.
