I went over to Clopper Lake in Seneca Creek State Park, Gaithersburg,
this morning to see if there were any signs of migrating
waterfowl. There were none at all!

On the other hand, the big stand of white pines in the main picnic
area was busy with small birds -- chickadees, titmice, Golden-crowned
Kinglets, and both species of Nuthatch -- with at least three active
and vocal RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES.

I then spent a few minutes at the Route 121 bridge by Little Seneca
Lake. I was happy to find 4 PIED-BILLED GREBE, 40 RUDDY DUCK, and 22
BUFFLEHEAD. So winter visitors are slowly trickling in.
