I don't even know where to begin, but it was remarkable. I have been going down there since I was a teenager and I don't remember having a day with so many winter finches.
As I got to the first field at around 7:30 birds were way up high dropping down out all around. Mostly Robins, Cedar Waxwings, Bluebirds, Purple Finches and Siskin's.
I turned up my first Fox Sparrow of the season at the same spot along with lots of Ruby cr Kinglets and Golden Cr.
The largest flock of Pine Siskin's had over 50 in it. They were in a non stop flight all day with a total estimate to be around 275 to 300. Purple Finches to be around 100 plus.
I had a single White winged Crossbill fly over the light house at the point and then continued over the river. I was not a red bird. It appeared to be a green/brown bird, it had a pretty distinct shape including a nice v cut tail. Vocally, it gave a very fast sharp Jif jif jiff call notes in flight. I have heard White winged and Reds before and I definitely seemed to be a White winged.
Also, George I had what I am sure were 2 Common Redpolls flying around by themselves at the Point. The calls were again pretty distinct. To me they sound similar to the White winged Crossbill but even more like a Dickcissel type quality. They also were doing almost like the Goldfinch lee roy sound. I couldn't get allot of the birds focused in my Canon view finder due to they were dots flying around, and the camera many times could not find them to focus, but I did get some fun photos to work thru. I am still going thru to see what came out. I switched to manual focus and started getting some pics of Siskin's and such flying around.
I also had a very late Blue gray Gnatcatcher.

I hope I can find time after the next frontal passage to make it out to Turkey Point again. I can't wait to see what's next.
When I get some time I will post some photos. Its my son Drew's Birthday tonight and we are heading out.
