Dear All
In a short birding walk at Roosevelt Island DC this morning the highlight, indeed greatest surprise, was a Wild Turkey seen very well feeding in on the main path close to where the bridge meets the island. To my knowledge this is a new locality in DC for this species in recent years.
The marsh area was quite birdy with the usual groups of chickadees, Yellow-rumped Warblers, and White-throated/Song Sparrows. Of note were a group of around 20 Waxwings, a single Swamp Sparrow and obliging Red-shouldered Hawk and Bald Eagle. Winter Wren, Purple Finch and Pine Siskin were all heard calling but not seen.
Cheers
Gary
