Yesterday's bird walk around the west end of the Mall produced these
'highlights':

Constitution Gardens:
The first diving ducks of the fall are finally in the pond: several
Ring-necked ducks, along with the many Mallards and Canada Geese.

DC Veteran's Memorial: a small feeding flock with a couple of
chickadees, a titmouse, and a couple of Golden-crowned Kinglets
(note: a fox is digging a high-rise den next to the eastern side of the
Park Police horse barns. It was actually resting outside its works
yesterday)

Tidal Basin:
The usual winter gulls were all represented (Ring-billed, Herring,
Greater Black-backed), as well as numerous Double-crested cormorants and
a single Pied-billed Grebe.

No hawks, though today when I crossed the Mall I saw a Cooper's Hawk
scaring up the pigeons by the Air and Space Museum.
