Hi Folks!
If you have a copy of the Yellow Book, on page 48 is bar chart for Canada
Goose "small races". After the split, when "small races" became Cackling Goose,
more birders started submitting their observations. I have personally seen
Cackling Goose in all 23 counties in Maryland. If you find a flock of 500-1000
migrant Canada Geese [not the local breeders] you can usually find one or
more pairs of Cackling Geese. The easiest way to find them is not by size, but
by color....they are grayer bodied and appear paler than the browner bodied
Canadas. My maximum count at any one time is 26; typically only one or two pair
will be found in a flock.
