Certain highlight of the day in Somerset was an Ash-throated Flycatcher in the little hamlet of Rehobeth on the banks of the Pocomoke River. The bird was in the yard of the last house before the boatramp on Coventry Parish Road. It perched for a couple of minutes, flew to another perch near the front deck of the house, then was hassled by a Northern Mockingbird, and flew into a bush about six feet from my car. The Mocker went after it again and they both flew around a house and disappeared. I hung around for another half-hour or so but couldn't relocate it. Carol Broderick called me later this afternoon and said she spotted the bird near the church about 3 buildings up from where I first saw it. It was again chased away by a Mockingbird.
While I was trying to re-find the bird a flock of 75-100 Rusty Blackbirds came through, and there were 2 Brewers Blackbirds in a small mixed flock of Red-winged Blackbirds and Common Grackles. The Ash-throated was a state bird for me, having whiffed on the Ocean City bird during the Rarities Roundup.
