The monthly Kent County Bird Club meeting will be held next Tuesday, 9
December at 7:30 PM at Heron Point in Chestertown. After our usual short
meeting, David Brinker of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources
will share a program about Northern Saw-whet Owls. These tiny charmers
nest in very small numbers in Garrett County, but migrate to and through
the rest of the state every year. In recent years, an increasing number
of owl banders have set up a network of stations across the country,
capturing and marking surprising numbers of saw-whets and contributing
to our knowledge of these secretive predators. Please join us for an
entertaining and informative evening.
In years past, the December meeting provided a chance for members to
show off their holiday baking skills. Anyone who would like to revive
this tradition is invited to bring cookies or other goodies to share
after the meeting.
Our meetings begin at 7:30 PM in Wesley Hall, in the Heron Point
community at the end of East Campus Ave in Chestertown. East Campus Ave
is the light on Washington Ave (MD-213) at the south edge of the
Washington College campus. If headed north, turn right, if headed south,
turn left off of Washington Ave. Follow East Campus Ave to the Heron
Point community and bear right on Sassafras Dr, continuing to the large
parking lot at the end. Wesley Hall is upstairs in the building on your
right as you enter the parking area; enter through the large portico.
This is the last meeting before our two-month winter break; our next
regular meeting will be the second Tuesday in March.
