Dave Harvey and I spent a hour checking out the fields to the NE and NW of the Rt. 85 and Oland Road intersection in Frederick County, starting at 11:15 AM today. John Stup joined us toward the end of our stay. We saw large flocks of Horned Larks flying between the fields on both sides of Rt 85, and managed to see multiple Lapland Longspurs mixed in with the Horned Larks. The best viewing spot was a small bit of ice located along the edge of the field about 200 feet from the intersection on the west side of Rt-85. There were six Lapland Longspurs there at one time, and after they left a Snow Bunting came to the icy area twice. We also saw an American Kestrel make a pass over the field and put up hundreds of birds.
