Today at lunch I walked around the east side of the Mall, including the
Capitol reflecting pool and the Botanic gardens. The Mall was crawling
with raptors! Two Red-tailed hawks circled around the north side of the
reflecting pool. Soon they were gone, replaced by a mature Bald Eagle
that flew low over the pool, bringing up all the gulls. Finally, a
Cooper's Hawk circled over Pennsylvania Ave. east of the National
Archives. Needless to say, smaller birds were being relatively
discreet!
