Four Siskins with one female Purple Finch at the tube feeders this AM.
About the same time, Jim Peters reported that one of our neighbors had just
seen a Bald Eagle feeding on a deer carcass in the field of a local farmer .
Off we went to the field.
Sure enough, a mature Eagle surrounded by 13 Crows, was resting in a tree
close to the carcass. A number of Black & Turkey vultures were dining until a
Red-tailed Hawk arrived. The vultures moved to a respectful distance. After a
half hour or so, the Eagle returned to the carcass and the hawk retreated along
with the vultures.
Bald Eagles have been wintering in this area for the last three years.
Might a nest be in the future?
