Jan 1, 2009 6:45 a.m., duration 10 hours, covered 249.99 miles which
included Point Lookout, HSMC Church, Piney Point/St. George's Island, my
home in Callaway, Allen's Fresh, Piscataway Park, 210 Shopping Center and
Hard Bargain Farm in Accokeek.

 

Observers: Chris Ordiway, Melissa Boyle and myself, Pat Rose

 

It was 24 degrees when we started out and below is the 74 kinds we observed
( we did not keep individual numbers)

 

Canada goose, Mute Swan, Tundra Swan, Gadwall, American Wigeon, American
Black Duck, Mallard, Northern Shoveler, Redhead, Ring-necked Duck, Lesser
Scaup, Surf Scoter, White-winged Scoter, Long-tailed Duck, Bufflehead,
Common Goldeneye, Ruddy Duck, Common loon, Pied-billed Grebe, Horned Grebe,
Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue heron, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture,
Bald Eagle, Northern harrier, Sharp-shinned hawk, Red-shouldered Hawk,
Red-tailed Hawk, American Coot, Ring-billed Gull, Herring Gull, Great
Black-backed Gull, Rock Pigeon, Mourning Dove, Eastern Screech-Owl, Barred
Owl, Belted Kingfisher, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Northern
Flicker, Pileated Woodpecker, Eastern Phoebe, Blue Jay, American Crow, Fish
Crow, Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, White-breasted Nuthatch,
Brown-headed Nuthatch, Brown Creeper, Carolina Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet,
Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Eastern Bluebird, Hermit Thrush, American Robin,
Northern Mockingbird, European Starling, Cedar Waxwing, Yellow-rumped
Warbler (myrtle), Eastern Towhee, Song Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow,
Dark-eyed Junco, Northern Cardinal, Red-winged Blackbird, Eastern
Meadowlark, Common Grackle, Brown-headed Cowbird, Purple Finch, House Finch,
American Goldfinch and House Sparrow...

 

 

Jan 2, 2009 7:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. I saw the first 26 birds, then the rest
over the course of the day.  I was the observer and these 32 kinds were
seen/heard from my kitchen in Callaway, MD.  

 

Canada Goose, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Mourning
Dove, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Eastern
Phoebe, Blue Jay, American Crow, Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse,
Carolina Wren, American Robin, Northern Mockingbird, European Starling,
Cedar Waxwing, Yellow-rumped Warbler (myrtle), Chipping Sparrow, Song
Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco (slate colored), Northern
Cardinal, Red-winged Blackbird, Brown-headed Cowbird, Purple Finch, House
Finch, Pine Siskin, American Goldfinch, House Sparrow and I heard a Pileated
Woodpecker

 

On a normal day, not cold/windy/snow/ice etc. I usually have between 20 - 25
kinds of birds.
