The first bird I heard upon awakening was an American Crow, appropriately.
So far today the yard list is up to 20 species, with a lot of activity at
the feeders and the pond:

Turkey vulture
Red-tailed hawk
Mourning dove
Red-bellied woodpecker
Hairy woodpecker
Downy woodpecker
Blue jay
American crow
Carolina chickadee
Tufted titmouse
White-breasted nuthatch
Carolina wren
Northern mockingbird
Eastern bluebird
Northern cardinal
House finch
American goldfinch
Dark-eyed junco
White-throated sparrow
Song sparrow

I've been trying for hours to turn "brownie" house finches into pine
siskins, but with no success. Can those of you with spare siskins please
send some my way? Also, the jays were peering and screaming into the tree
cavity where a screech owl occasionally roosts, which may or may not mean
the owl is actually in there right now. Will keep a lookout for it.
