Nice birds on a nice first day of 2009 at Greenbelt Lake, 
notably a single CACKLING GOOSE, a female AMERICAN WIGEON, 
two LESSER SCAUPS (1 male, 1 female), about 20 HOODED 
MERGANSERS, and a BROWN CREEPER.  Full eBird report follows:

Notes:    A fine New Year's Day walk around the lake looking 
for waterfowl.  Cold, breezy, sunny.  Also saw some Eastern 
Gray Squirrels.
