Two people from West Virginia told me of seeing a "possible" Barrow's
Goldeneye while birding at the Cambridge Marina on Wednesday, January 7th.
Later the bird was relocated by Sam Dyke, and today numerous birders of our
region thrilled to the discovery and viewing of this bird. This bird, when
the sighting is confirmed, will become the first ever confirmed Barrow's
Goldeneye sighting for the Maryland Eastern Shore.
For the record, it would be very helpful to have the names of those "out
of state" birders who really appear to be the first ones to notice something
unusual about this Goldeneye.
So - West Virginia Birders - if you recognize this story and recognize
yourselves as the real discoverers of this bird, please contact me by
replying to this email so that you can get proper credit for this great
find.
The birder parade over there today was continuous, so I suspect at least
50 or more birders were able the see and enjoy this bird. Many managed the
full trifecta by being able to also view the Tufted Duck and the Eurasian
Wigeon. The Wigeon returned to proud display today along the waterfrong
after an absence of several days.
