Posted on behalf of David R. Smith of Carroll Co.
I arrived about 11:00am and ran into a birder from PA, Chuck Berthoud,
Lydia Schindler and a gentleman, who's name I have forgotten, from Montgomery County . We all observed the Tufted Duck from behind the Yacht Club building within the wooden docks to the right. Lydia and her friend then drove around to the municipal pier and accessed the wooden piers in hopes of getting a better look at the duck. They did not see the Tufted Duck, but did get great looks at the female Barrow's Goldeneye.
The birds flushed and flew downriver right past where Chuck and I were standing at the Yacht Club. We saw the Barrow's as it flew by and followed it to where it landed in the Choptank downriver of the Yacht Club. Views from the river were tough because of the strong wind, heat sheen off the water, and waves. Chuck and I later went around to the Municipal Pier, signed in (the only ones who had done so - though in Lydia's defense, the clip board was not all that obvious), and walked out on the wooden docks. We found the small flock of scaup with the Tufted Duck still with them. A boat owner flushed the birds out into the Choptank. We looked for the Eurasian Wigeon amongst the 10-15 American Wigeon at the end of Oakly Road, but did not see it.

So the Tufted Duck and Barrow's Goldeneye are still around for folks to
find. I think the best place to look given the conditions is within the docks.
