Subject: [MDOSPREY] Cambridge Marina Access - still some rough spots

I visited the Cambridge Marina at 2:00 p.m. today and found that the
wild winds had blown away the Sign-in sheet. I was on my way to visit the
Dockmaster anyhow, so when I reached that office I told Marina staff that
the sheet was gone, and the person I spoke with said it would be replaced.

At that office, the Dockmaster was away, but I left beautiful 8 by 10
prints of the Tufted Duck and the Barrow's Goldeneye for him. George Jett
had agreed to have copies of his photos made for this purpose.

The ROUGH SPOTS stem from the fact that some of our birders have
forgotten one of the fundamentals of social grace - namely that when you are
a guest in someone's work space your really should try to stay out of the
way of workers who want to do their work. One of the marina workers
reported to me that not once, but several times birders with tripods set up
were blocking the route as he came along on his work cart. Birders did not
move when they saw him approach, and even when he said he needed to get
through, some of the birders just looked at him as if he was intruding, and
some even told him that they had just gotten set up - showing substantial
reluctance to moving at all.

Behavior like that is totally unacceptable, of course. Even with our
new arrangement, birders still must make way when the workers and their cart
and their equipment are coming through. Anyone who does not fully cooperate
with the marina workers is definitely putting access of all birders at risk.
Though we currently have an arrangement through which birders are being
allowed use of the marina walk ways, that arrangement could very readily be
cancelled if birders are unable to cooperate. So, birders, keep an eye on
one-another, and if you see someone not cooperating with the marina staff,
speak up, get the behavior corrected, or we will all be ordered away from
that marina.

My next visit was to the Yacht Club office where I delivered another
set of 8 by 10's. The reception there was fully gracious and appreciative.
The woman in the office said she would post the photos for members and
friends to enjoy.

With the Yacht Club permission, I stepped out behind their building and
saw three female Goldeneyes in the water near the usual corner. I did not
bring binocs, so do not know for sure if one was the Barrow's, but I
strongly suspect that it was.
