Hi all,
I birded Jug Bay and surrounding area today. Schoolhouse pond and
Depot pond had no interesting gulls to report, but at Schoolhouse there were
3 Pintails, 2 Wood ducks, 1 Coot and the Trumpeter. I then went to Jug
Bay. Waterfowl is pretty much frozen out here except for 44 Common
Mergansers, 3 Hooded Mergansers, and many Mallards. There are many many
Canada Geese, and I noticed on the visitor board that someone had posted a
Ross's Goose on the 17th. I was not successful locating that bird but the
highlight was a juvenile GOLDEN EAGLE which soared over my head for several
minutes in perfect light. I could easily see the juvenile plumage on both
the top and bottom of the bird. Other birds of note were:
5 Fox Sparrow
6 Bald Eagles
2 Hermit Thrushes
2 Red-Headed Woodpeckers
2 Yellow -Bellied Sapsuckers
both Kinglets and
1 Purple Finch

Good Birding!!
