Hello Maryland Birders,

Have you dreamed of birding the Texas coast during spring migration? Would
you like to support habitat conservation for migrant birds at the same time?
Consider participating in the biggest, baddest, funnest birding tournament
ever, the Great Texas Birding Classic. The Birding Classic is held along
the Texas coast each spring during the peak of migration. Teams compete for
conservation dollars (and bragging rights) in several different categories
including a five-day tournament, one-day sectional tournaments in each of
the three sections of the coast, and a Big Sit! tournament. The one-day
sectionals include tournaments for three different age groups including
adults (18 and over), Gliders (age 14-18), and Roughwings (age 13 and
under). The one-day sectionals also include an Energy Saver option in which
teams compete for bird species per mile rather than just total number of
bird species. If you want to compete with a smaller energy footprint, the
Energy Saver is for you. Each tournament has a conservation prize of
$20,000, $10,000 or $3,000 associated with it and the winners get to choose
from a selection of approved conservation project proposals on the Texas
coast to award their prize.

You can find out more information on the Birding Classic website
(www.birdingclassic.org <http://www.birdingclassic.org/> ) or you can e-mail
me at the address below. This year the tournament runs from April 26th to
May 3rd and registrations are due by March 13th. Get together with your
friends and start planning your strategy today and then come on down to the
great state of Texas in April and whoop it up!
