Jane and I headed up to North East today to add Iceland Gull. We had a very buffy first-year bird on the ice off the wharf at the town park, after which we had lunch at the Nauti Goose. While eating, Jane found a second Iceland Gull, much more white, at the edge of the open water just off the restaurant wharf (the first bird was still visible in the distance). It flew as we watched, and we had a good view of the white primaries as it circled over the river.

Earlier (around 10 AM) we had stopped by Druid Ridge Cemetery, where we found a group of birders who had searched unsuccessfully for the crossbills. We looked briefly, then continued northward.

We also visited Elk Neck State Park, where a stiff wind from the NW made the temperature seem much lower than the 38 F our thermometer read. Many, many eagles were on the ice, and lots of Common Mergansers in the open-water pools. Also we had a flock of maybe a dozen Wild Turkeys along Turkey Point Road on the way to the park.
