Sunday my dad and I drove to Cambridge MD to see the Tufted Duck, Barrow's
Goldeneye which where life birds for my dad.
When we arrived at the marina ( about noon ) we walked out onto the pier
and at the very end we found the Tufted Duck and the Barrow's Goldeneye. The
ducks where near the red roofed building inside the cement pier. the Lighting
was perfect and both ducks seemed relaxed, especially the Goldeneye ( mostly
because we kept our distance ). We were there for at least 1 hour with
other birders. Later my dad and I found the Eurasian Wigeon by the Visitor
Center.
Other good birds I saw this ( last week) are the following.
On Tuesday during the inauguration ( I listened to it on NPR radio) as I
drove to the Pocomoke sandpits. while looking for larks in the fields near the
sandpits I found a large flock of Pipits 50+. While scanning through the
flock I found 3 LAPLAND LONGSPURES ! ( my first ones in Maryland )
other birds from sandpits are as follows,
1, F Canvasback
10 American Coots ( very small count compared to last years)
700 + Mallards ( large count compared to last years)
10 American Black Duck
600 + Canada Geese
12 Ring - necked Ducks
7 American Widgeon
30 Tundra Swans
5 Gadwall
60 Ring billed Gulls
2 Lesser Scaup
7 Hooded Mergansers
100+ Ruddy Ducks
2 Double - crested Cormorants
5 + Bald Eagles
20+ Pied - billed Grebe

On Wednesday I went to Jane's Island SP. while birding there I saw 3 Red
Crossbills flying with a large flock of Pine Siskins 30+ while on top of the
viewing platform.
while on my way back to the car I ran into a large flock of kinglets ( Ruby
and Golden Crowned). the Kinglets where so busy foraging that they did not
even notice me as they ate inches from my feet. while I was taking amazing
pictures of them one very curious Golden crown Kinglet flew on to my pointer
finger ( trigger finger for the camera ) and looked me in the eye for at least a
second. I couldn't hold in my laughter and scared the little bird with a
giggle. Jane's Island State Park is full of surprises.

 Birding forever
