Kudos, Bill, for bringing this up. 

I think another way to confound the gadgets is to leave the condor you saw in your back yard off your initial list. You can then edit the observation, hide the observation, and add in the condor all at the same time. Seems to me this ought to work. 


Another issue that needs to be considered when using eBird are the rights of private property owners. There has been some discussion back and forth about this as well. If you as an individual have access to private property, how should you report? This is particularly relevant to places that get reported on a lot and where good birds consistently show up. (I'm not talking about a residence where a mega-rarity shows up for a while and then leaves.) Appending "(private)" to the location name is one strategy I've seen. This at least alerts other birders that they should get more information regarding access before planning a trip.
