Bob,
Do you know what kind of spruces you were searching? I ask this because
yesterday, I searched (w/o success) for WWCBs in an area of Rockville
with a concentration of Norway Spruce. When I got home, I found a thread
on PAbirds from 1/11/09 that WWCBs are not able to feed on Norway Spruce
cones because of their (the cones) large size.
If you found these birds on Norway Spruce maybe I will try the Rockville
site again.
Thanks,
Andy Martin

I suggested we try a cemetery on Bachman Valley Road which is ringed with spruces. We found 13 White-wings there. It is John Luther Miller Memorial Cemetery about a half mile south of Bixler Church Road and Bachman Mills (DeLorme 74B1/2). The birds moverd around quite a bit and could be in any tree. If you go please respect the residents.
